5.8 magnitude quake, Cianjur Alert Avalanche

The epicenter was located 24 km southeast Cianjur which is unstable regions. An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale (SR) rocked the cianjur district, West Java at 21:15 pm making Penanggulang Disaster Agency (BPBD) issued an alert warning of landslides and shifting soil.

Head BPBD Cianjur, Asep Suhara, Thursday, November 1, 2012 said it immediately issued instructions alert landslides and shifting ground after an earthquake.

Asep BMKG explain the data received shows the epicenter was 24 km Cianjur landmark which is the unstable ground.

Prone areas in nine districts in South Cianjur stretching from Campaka to Sindang Items with an area of more than 160 kilometers. The area is known close to the fault Cimandiri Plate and the Australia.

Of data held, Asep estimates, due to a shift in the Australian plate shifts can impact soil and landslides.

In the last three weeks there were at least seven times in the South Cianjur landslide with damage to afflict more than 10 homes. BPBD continue to monitor the impact of an earthquake alert 12 officers in the Post.
